20 Most Expensive Watches in the World

The watch is one of the great status symbols of our time. Did you think that the most expensive watches on the market were Tag Heuer, Breitling and Omega? Forget it! We've listed 20 of the world's most expensive watches - and none of the well-known manufacturers make the exclusive cut.

When we say the world's most expensive watches, we really mean it. The high-end timepieces on this list have price tag in the millions and are made of modest materials such as gold, diamonds - and moon rocks!

Check out the full list of watches you'll never be able to afford.

20. Patek Philippe Sky-Moon Tourbillon

Price: $1.1 million

French Patek Philippe is behind this exclusive and dashing wristwatch. The design is based on a movement technique called tourbillon - known in watchmaking circles as the world's most complicated.

19. Vacheron Constantin Tour de I'lle

Price: $1.5 million

Vacheron Constantin is another of Switzerland's most exclusive watchmakers. The Tour de L'lle model was the most technically accomplished wristwatch money could buy when it first saw the light of day in 2005. The creation is composed of 834 parts and features a dial on both the front and back. The watch is otherwise completely devoid of extra embellishments such as diamonds and the like. Here is the craftsmanship you pay for!

18. Greubel Forsey Art Piece 1

Price: $1.5 million

Art Piece 1 from Greubel Forsey is truly a work of art. The technical details alone make your mouth water. But it's the playfulness of the design that really makes it stand out. Each one has a tiny nanosized figure hidden inside that can only be seen through a microscope in the rotating axis. At the moment, you can choose from a mini version of a ship, a Coca-Cola bottle and a hummingbird, among others.

17. Richard Mille RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire

Price: $2 million

With a look as stylish and unique as Richard Mille's RM 56-02 Sapphire Tourbillon, you almost shouldn't have to justify the insane price tag of $2 million. But it's the craftsmanship behind it that drives up the value. The detailed case and extraordinarily complex dial are both made of sapphires.

16. Rolex Antimagnetique Ref. 4113

Price: $2.4 million

A Rolex will always justify a high price tag. But how high will it be if we start approaching the legendary manufacturer's most valuable prized possessions? This stunning Antimagnetique Ref. 4133 sold in 2017 at auction for a staggering $2.4 million. The watch was made in 1942 and is just one of 12 examples in total.

15. Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica Grande Sonnerie

Price: $2.5 million

The Hybris Mechanica Grande Sonnerie from Jaeger-LeCoultre consists of a whopping 1,406 components that seamlessly propel the technically perfect dial forward. It can also play several famous sounds, including a perfect rendition of Big Ben's chiming melody.

14. Lange & Söhne Grand Complication

Price: $2.5 million

Released as recently as 2013, the Grand Complication from Lange & Söhne is the German manufacturer's most expensive wristwatch. They are made and sold only to order and take about a year to put together. That, in and of itself, can be overlooked based on the knowledge that it consists of no less than 876 separate parts.

13. Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4

Price: $2.7 million

Want to know what the world's most complicated wristwatch looks like? Here it is! The Aeternitas Mega 4 from manufacturer Franck Muller consists of a total of - brace yourself - 1,483 components. You'll certainly have to shell out $2.7 million to call the watch yours. But it might be worth it. Designed to stand the test of time, it has a calendar that follows a thousand-year cycle and is infinitely renewable.

12. Patek Philippe Platinum World Time

Price: $3.7 million

This watch from Patek Philippe may not look like much to the world. But don't be fooled - the simple and stylish watch has a price tag of nearly $3.7 million.

11. Rolex Daytona Ref. 6263 Oyster Albino

Price: $4 million

Rolex's second entry on the list was sold at auction in 2014 for $4 million. It is one of only four examples made in a limited edition from the exclusive watchmaker.

9. Louis Moinet Meteoris

Price: $4.6 million

With only three pieces worldwide, the Louis Moinet Meteoris is one of the most sought-after wristwatches on the planet. They're also out of this world. Literally, that is. In fact, some of the components are extracted from rocks from the moon.

8. Hublot Big Bang

Price: $5 million

If you like bling and have five million dollars lying around, this is the watch for you! With a total of 1280 diamonds of at least three carats each, this glittering timepiece is a lesson in luxury. What's more, every stone on the watch is hand-chiseled by the same New York jeweler with over 40 years of experience.

7. Stainless steel Patek Philippe ref. 1518

Price: $11 million

When this wristwatch was sold at auction recently, the buyer shelled out a whopping $11 million. It is number one in a limited edition of four in total. What makes the watch so desirable is the choice of materials. While most of Patek Philippe's luxury watches are made of yellow or rose gold, this one is made entirely of stainless steel.

6. Jacob & Co. Billionaire Watch

Price: $18 million

It's not called a billionaire's watch for no reason. If you can afford the Jacob & Co Billionaire Watch, chances are you're a full-fledged member of the Billionaire's Club.

4. Chopard 201-Carat Watch

Price: $25 million

Is it even a watch? Yes, behind all the 874 gemstones totalling a whopping 201 carats, you'll actually find a small dial. Behind the world's most expensive watch is the manufacturer Chopard, established in 1860 by Swiss watchmaker Louis-Ulysse Chopard. The watch has a spring-loaded mechanism that, when pushed in, opens up the three heart-shaped diamonds, exposing the beautiful dial. The watch was sold at auction in 2000 for a staggering $25 million.

3. Breguet Grande Complication Marie Antoinette

Price: $30 million

Not only is this watch an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship, but it also has a fascinating history. The pocket watch, valued at $30 million, was specially commissioned in 1782 by a lover of Marie Antoinette. Unfortunately, the watch took over 20 years to complete and Antoinette never got to enjoy its beauty. She was, as we know, executed in 1793 during the French Revolution.

2. Graff Diamonds The Fascination Watch

Price: $40 million

This creation is yours for $40 million. Graff Diamonds Fascination consists of a total of 152.96 carats of white diamonds. In the middle is also a pear-shaped diamond of 38.13 carats that can be detached and used as a ring.
